Piercing Aftercare – Surface Piercing Care Guide

How to Clean and Care for Your New Piercing

Proper piercing aftercare is essential to ensure your new piercing heals correctly. Use saline solution (such as baby nasal saline) or colloidal silver 2-3 times a day to clean the pierced area. Apply the solution to a cotton swab and gently clean around the piercing from all sides. Even after your piercing has healed, continue to clean it daily as part of your regular hygiene routine.

Fresh Piercing – What to Do If You Experience Swelling

If you notice swelling around your fresh piercing, prepare an oak bark infusion (available at pharmacies) according to the instructions on the package. Once the solution cools, soak a gauze pad and apply it to the swollen area 1-3 times a day for 3-6 minutes. This natural remedy can help reduce swelling and soothe the piercing site.

Piercing Aftercare – Dos and Don’ts for Fresh Piercings

  • Do: Check the tightness of the jewelry ball daily with clean hands to prevent it from loosening.
  • Don’t: Twist or turn the jewelry, remove it, or replace it before the recommended time by your piercer. Avoid covering the piercing with non-breathable bandages (breathable ones are okay). Keep the piercing away from water sources like lakes, oceans, or swimming pools. Avoid applying creams, makeup, or touching the piercing with dirty hands. Be cautious of snagging, bumping, or putting pressure on the area. Avoid tanning beds during the healing period.

Alcohol and Caffeine Restrictions

Limit your intake of alcohol, strong coffee, and tea, especially on the day of the piercing. These substances can dilate blood vessels, potentially causing increased bleeding and slowing down the healing process.

Ear Piercing Aftercare

  • Avoid using in-ear or over-ear headphones.
  • Change your pillowcase and bedding frequently to maintain cleanliness and reduce the risk of infection.

Navel Piercing Aftercare

  • For 2-3 weeks, avoid exercises that strain your abdominal muscles.
  • Do not wear tight clothing that could press on the piercing site.

Oral Piercing Aftercare

Cleaning:

  • During the healing process, rinse your mouth with oak bark infusion for 30 seconds 2-3 times a day. This can help reduce swelling that may occur.
  • Also, rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash to maintain oral hygiene.

Dietary Restrictions:

  • Avoid foods with live bacterial cultures (e.g., yogurt, milk), spicy foods, very hot or cold items, sticky foods like pudding, and sucking on candies (especially for tongue piercings). Refrain from consuming alcohol, strong coffee, strong tea, and smoking.

What Not to Do During the Healing Period

  • Do not play with the jewelry! Avoid oral contact, including kissing on the cheek.
  • Do not remove the jewelry or attempt to replace it with a smaller one on your own.
  • Do: Check the tightness of the jewelry balls regularly.
